It is tough to breathe easy in the times in which we live, which is possibly why 'Oxygen' which will soon debut on Netflix will be of perhaps more interest than usual. According to the Netflix synopsis, 'Oxygen' is a French survival thriller directed by Alexandre Aja. The film tells the story of a young woman (Melanie Laurent) who wakes up in a cryogenic pod. She doesn’t remember who she is or how she ended up there. As she’s running out of oxygen, she must rebuild her memory to find a way out of her nightmare.

The film was previously known by the title 'O2'. According to The Hollywood Reporter, 'Oxygen' was initially supposed to star Anne Hathaway before actor Melanie Laurent made the role her own.

Cast

Melanie Laurent 

Melanie Laurent first captured the attention of the audience in Quentin Tarantino's blockbuster war film 'Inglourious Basterds'. However, Laurent was already an extremely well-established actor in France, before her Hollywood debut. Laurent was introduced to acting at the age of sixteen by Gérard Depardieu.

Her breakthrough role came in the 2006 drama film 'Don't Worry, I'm Fine' for which she later won the César Award for Most Promising Actress and the Prix Romy Schneider. While she has largely worked in independent films she has also been a part of some commercial films such as 'Now You See Me'. Laurent also recently won a whole new legion of fans with her performance as Sylviane in the series 'Little America'.

Mathieu Amalric

Mathieu Amalric is perhaps best-known for his role as the villain in the James Bond film 'Quantum of Solace'. His other notable films include Steven Spielberg's 'Munich' and  'The Diving Bell and the Butterfly'.

He is a critically-acclaimed actor and has won several César Awards and the Lumières Award. Amalric was also recently seen in the Oscar-nominated 'Sound Of Metal'.

The trailer of 'Oxygen' in its claustrophobic setting, will take your breath away for more reasons than one. The extremely talented Melanie Laurent seems to carry this film almost solely on her shoulders.
