WASHINGTON, DC: The House of Representatives rejected an impeachment resolution introduced by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene against Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas on Monday, November 13, leaving netizens feeling betrayed.

Greene filed a motion to impeach Mayorkas last week as a “privileged” resolution, which forces the House to take action on the measure within 48 hours.

Greene proposed one article of impeachment against Mayorkas and accused him of violating a 2006 law that mandates the DHS maintain complete “operational control” of the border — which Greene and others say hasn’t been upheld, as per Forbes.

Eight Republicans reportedly joined all Democrats in the 209-201 vote to send the impeachment resolution to the House panel, which is already probing Mayorkas over his handling of the crisis at the southern border.

Moments before the voting decision, Greene tweeted, “Impeachment articles against Mayorkas have been collecting dust in committee for months. It’s time to move the vote to the House floor, not send it back to committee.”

And once the decision was out, Greene expressed her frustration on X, saying, "8 Republicans just joined Democrats to KILL my Articles of Impeachment against Mayorkas."

Twenty-four lawmakers — 12 Democrats and 12 Republicans — did not vote on the resolution.

The Georgia Republican reportedly accused Mayorkas of "high crimes and misdemeanors," citing his failure to secure the border and protect against the alleged invasion of millions of illegal immigrants.

During her Thursday statement on the House floor, Greene asserted, “The ongoing invasion at our southern border is a direct national security threat against the States and against the citizens therein," as per the New York Post.

The resolution also accuses Mayorkas of allegedly violating US citizens' rights to protection from invasion, as per the Constitution’s Article IV Guarantee Clause, and disregarding the Secure Fence Act of 2006.

Greene's charges against the Biden administration Cabinet official extend to alleged violations of the Immigration and Nationality Act, including the practice of "catch and release policies," termination of contracts for border wall construction, and the abandonment of the Trump administration’s Remain in Mexico and Title 42 policies for migrant expulsion, as per the source outlet.

If the measure had passed, House lawmakers would have debated Greene's resolution and then voted on the articles of impeachment.
