Arrowverse star Osric Chau says he felt like he was at Comic-Con on the sets of 'Crisis on Infinite Earths'

After his breakout role as Ryan Choi in 'Crisis on Infinite Earths', 'Supernatural' star Osric Chau has added yet another fandom to his list of admirers.

The massive crossover officially made Chau and his character a part of the Arrowverse and in an exclusive interview with MEA WorldWide (MEAWW), the 33-year-old actor revealed that what he found most uncanny about being on the 'Crisis' set was just how much it felt like going to Comic-Con.

"Everyone in the room is in a costume and they have their own show," Chau recalled. "And I'm just this guy in like — I don't know where they got the clothes from, like H&M or something — and I'm like 'Huh, I'm like the regular guy in this room'."

"And then you have like the whole cast, like the other cast and crew, everyone's just like geeking out over the fact that Brandon Routh's in Superman costume, like everyone is in costume and I'm just like 'Man, these are really good cosplays. The detail work is great'. And it just felt like Comic-Con."

Chau also spoke more about his character, the audition process and finally getting a chance to play a character his own age. You can check out the full interview below.

Not too many people know this but Gail Simone, the writer who created Ryan Choi for DC, actually campaigned to have Chau cast in the role. Whether that helped him land the role or not, it did make for a really good story for Chau to tell.

"This was a crazy story," Chau said. "But my roommate way back when — I think this was seven years ago — one day he just like sat me down in the living room and he's like 'Okay, I went through the entire list of Asian superheroes that exist' and of all the people he was like 'You'd probably end up playing Ryan Choi'."

"He said that. And so we actually put together this pitch deck and we were really excited about it for like a Ryan Choi show and he started tweeting at Gail and Gail looked at me and was like 'Oh my God! This is Ryan Choi!'," he shared.

"We ended up meeting her at Seattle Comic-Con," he continued. "I saw she was there and went to say hi and she was like 'Oh my God, this is so weird to meet you in person'. So we kind of like flipped out on each other for a bit."

"She ended up putting me in one of her comics 'Red Sonja' and then we kind of like lost contact for a couple of years, the audition happened for 'Steve Wagner' and I'm like, 'There's no Asian guy named Steve Wagner, that's so weird'. And it occurred to me, 'This is Ryan Choi!'"

He added: "And of course, I called it out in the room and I got the job and it was Ryan Choi." All episodes of 'Crisis on Infinite Earths' are currently available for streaming on The CW app.
