Oscars 2020: Elton John and Bernie Taupin win Best Original Song for 'Rocketman', toast to '53 years' together

'(I'm Gonna) Love Me Again' from the movie 'Rocketman' has won the Academy Award for Best Original Song during the 92nd Academy Awards which is being held at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood. The award was presented by Brie Larson, Gal Gadot and Sigourney Weaver.
The nominations for the Best Original Song category included 'I Can't Let You Throw Yourself Away' from 'Toy Story 4' — music and lyrics by Randy Newman, '(I'm Gonna) Love Me Again' from 'Rocketman' — music by Elton John, lyrics by Bernie Taupin, 'I'm Standing with You' from 'Breakthrough' — music and lyrics by Diane Warren, 'Into the Unknown' from 'Frozen 2' — music and lyrics by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, and 'Stand Up' from 'Harriet' — music and lyrics by Joshuah Brian Campbell and Cynthia Erivo.
This is Bernie Taupin's first Academy Award win and nomination. This is Elton John's fourth nomination and second win.
Last year, Lady Gaga, Mark Ronson, Anthony Rossomando and Andrew Wyatt won the award for 'Shallow' from the movie 'A Star is Born'.
During the acceptance speech, Bernie Taupin thanked everyone who worked on 'Rocketman'. He said, "most of this goes to the people who worked on the film."
He also specially thanked Elton John, saying, "Being here with this guy... I don't have words for it." He continued, "This is just justification of 53 years of hammering it out and doing what we do."
Elton John also thanked Taupin for being, "the constant thing in my life, when I was screwed up and when I was normal. He's always been there."
Elton John also gave a special shoutout to Taron Egerton who played Elton John in 'Rocketman' and music producer Giles Martin. He said, "This is a dream for us, [we have] never been nominated for anything like this."
The Academy Awards ceremony is taking place at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.
