Marvel's 'Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings' and 'Spider-Man: No Way Home' were the two Marvel movies that earned a nomination in 'Best Visual Effects'. However, both were snubbed in the 'Best Picture' category and a debate stirred up on social media platforms. 'Dune', 'Free Guy', and 'No Time to Die' were some of the films nominated in the category, with the Timothy Chalamet-starrer tipped to win the award.

Although 'No Way Home' boasted of a trio of web slingers —Tom Holland, Andrew Garfield, and Tobey MacQuire — it wasn't enough to sway the voting members. 'Belfast', 'Drive My Car', 'King Richard', 'CODA', 'Dune', 'Licorice Pizza', 'The Power of the 'Dog', and 'West Side Story' ultimately made the nominations list for 'Best Picture'.

Fans took to Twitter to share their two cents on the snub. "As much as I wanted it to be nominated cuz I genuinely thought it deserved it, not surprised it wasn't nominated. While I think there's a bias against comicbook movies, just not surprised, besides, does anyone actually care about the Oscars lol?" one of the tweets read. "there was nothing oscar worthy about spiderman: no way home, as entertaining as it was..." read another tweet. "Chili’s is good comfort food and they are a successful franchise but no one would give them a Michelin star. Same principle applies here," a fan quipped.

"Just because it’s a huge hit doesn’t mean it’s Oscar worthy! It’s special effects mostly but it’s not A best picture quality," a tweet read. "Do you guys even watch movies I love Spider-Man No Way Home but absolutely no way is it deserving of a best picture nomination. It was always a long shot," a fan remarked. "If No Way Home was nominated for Best Picture, then so should’ve Winter Soldier, The Avengers, and Infinity War. Only reason it did so well was solely bc of the callback actors (specifically Andrew)," a tweet opined.
