But the introduction of the 'Beast' Transformers in the seventh film is giving the franchise a new spin. ‘Transformers: Rise of the Beasts’ is set to hit theaters on June 9 and fans are wondering if Optimus Prime and Optimal Primal will match the comic lore. ‘Transformers: Rise of the Beasts’ is set in 1994 and follows Noah and Elena as what they find centers around the major war between the Maximals, Predacons, and Terrorcons. Those who are familiar with Transformer Autobots' faces, might have known by now that both Optimus Primal and Optimus Prime will be featured in the film. However, with the two iconic leaders from the lore joining forces soon, our quick primer will help you tell them apart and settle debates about who is stronger.
The two are entirely different considering their almost similar names. For many years, fans wanted to see both the leaders meet, but that wouldn’t have been possible until ‘Transformers: Rise of the Beasts’. In this movie, the battle will be more interesting as Prime opts for a new strategy to lead that better fits Primal’s style.
Optimus Prime Vs Optimus Primal
Fans are going head over heels as Optimus Primal and Optimus Prime are going to star together in one action film. Many are speculating if these characters are similar with Primal being a more primitive version of Prime. But the answer is a resounding no. The two iconic leaders are completely different, and the trailer of the movie possibly indicates a short-lived conflict between the two as well. And this is actually due to their history together in Netflix’s ‘War for Cybertron Trilogy’ as Optimus Primal doesn’t trust Optimus Prime. It is because Maximals are from the future and they know Optimus Prime’s secret, the one which he doesn’t yet know himself.

Optimus Prime vs Optimus Primal
Optimus Primal is from the future and a leader of Maximals who will team up with Optimus Prime to face off against a new faction called Terrorcons. This time, the battle is expected to be quite dangerous forcing Prime to lead in a new way. In ‘Beast Wars’, the story was set in a future where the Autobot and Decepticon war had ended, but the Maximals and Predacons began as new factions. Following a new incarnation of Megatron's quest for power, a fresh conflict emerged. As a result, Megatron's faction and Optimus Primal's faction found themselves transported to the ancient past, specifically prehistoric Earth. To survive and maintain their ongoing battle, both factions adopted animal forms. It was during this time that fans truly witnessed the stark differences between Optimus Primal and Optimus Prime.
Prime was seen as a skilled fighter and amazing leader who lead through wisdom and avoided unnecessary fights. His strength is that he is a strategist. On the other hand, Primal commanded from the frontlines and fought alongside Maximals. It is more evident in the movie trailer as Primal is leading the charge with Prime, the two best leaders working together, against the Terrorcons. Though both aren’t better than the other, their differences highlight two successful ways to be a leader.
Additionally, Primal has shown his powers as a leader, always ready to fight but able to strategize on the fly. But it doesn’t mean that Prime can’t teach the younger leader a few new techniques. Primal has never fought in the human world but Prime has. Though Primal has military aptitude, only Prime knows the right ways to engage in certain battles.
As Optimus Prime and Optimus Primal will be seen fighting side by side, the arc of Transformers will change completely. When the world collides, it’s clear that both leaders could teach each other some valuable lessons to help them win the war.
