OKLAHOMA: A 12-year-old Oklahoma boy is being hailed a hero after he rescued a 2-year-old baby who was locked inside a hot car on Tuesday, August 14.

Ben Theriot said that after his mother heard the child crying in the car, he immediately tried to rescue the baby using a ratchet strap from his mother's car.

"I started hitting the side window... It didn’t bust... Bent it pretty badly. I stomped on it and then it cracked pretty badly again. I swung it over my shoulder, hit it right in the center. And then I hit it a couple more times and then I climbed on the windshield. Then the lady went and grabbed that hanger thing and then I put the hook into the windshield and pulled it out. And then I unlocked it," Theriot sais, reported Fox News.

Theriot was with his mother Nikki Fields when they heard the cries of the baby. "My mom heard the baby crying," he said.

Fields had spotted the child strapped in the backseat of the car and was extremely worried about the child's wellbeing.

She said she is very proud of her son. "I’m just very proud of him. I’m glad he knew what to do," she revealed.

The Tulsa police revealed that the temperature on the day was around 116 degrees.

The investigators located the mother shopping and handed her a $250 ticket under the "Forget Me Not" law.

The police have also been investigating the mother's story and have said that it was an accident.

The child's mother claimed that she thought another adult was watching the child.

The police then questioned her as to why the car was not running and was also locked.

The mother was not arrested as the baby was not seriously hurt and it was not a strong enough case for child neglect.
