Netflix's new docuseries on NFL star and murder convict Aaron Hernandez has reignited interest in the football tight end's troubled life and eventual death. The film's release, however, has also made it difficult for his victim Odin Lloyd's family to find closure, reports state.

Hernandez, the youngest National Football League player in 2010, was found guilty of first-degree murder in 2015 after he shot and killed Odin Lloyd, the boyfriend of his fiancée’s sister. Two years later, on April 19, 2017, Hernandez was found dead in his prison cell at the age of 27. He was serving a life sentence when he took his life by hanging himself.

Lloyd's family has reportedly been harassed ever since the Netflix docuseries was released on January 15, 2020. Sources close to Lloyd's immediate family told TMZ that the documentary has opened emotional wounds for the family. Lloyd's family has tried to move on from the case ever since the overturning of Massachusetts' abatement clause in March 2019 to get Hernandez's conviction to stand after his death. The family has reportedly always declined to be a part of specials or films about Hernandez or Lloyd's murder.

The Lloyd family, according to the outlet's sources, did not sign off on the Netflix docuseries either and they did not want to be involved with its production. The streaming giant, instead, had to resort to using stock footage of the Lloyd family in the production. The family was also left disheartened at Netflix's use of Odin Lloyd's images in the film without their permission. However, they, instead, resolved to move on and not engage in a legal battle.

The docuseries has reportedly brought a lot of unwanted attention towards the family, and its increasing popularity has led people to inquire about their lives. Some viewers have even gone as far as to contact the Lloyd family and defending Hernandez's actions to them, according to the outlet.

'Killer Inside: The Mind of Aaron Hernandez' details Hernandez's rise to fame and his near-immediate downfall. The docuseries also attempts to find a clear motive for Lloyd's murder and his subsequent suicide.
