Oatly’s banned 2014 ad for Super Bowl LV has Internet saying it’s ‘better than The Weeknd performance’
The commercials played during Super Bowl LV have managed to create a lot of buzz on the internet. Oat milk brand Oatly used the opportunity to release one of its old commercials that was banned in Sweden by the Swedish dairy lobby in 2014 for implying that cow’s milk is unhealthy. However, it seems like the recycled ad with its catchy jingle has managed to catch the attention of the audience.
The ‘Wow No Cow’ spot, which ran in the game’s second quarter, shows Oatly CEO Toni Petersson singing the song written by him while standing before an oat field using an electric piano. The lyrics say, “It’s like milk, but made for humans."

The company said on its website on Sunday, February 6, “Yeah, that was really our CEO singing on the Super Bowl. Maybe interrupting the second quarter so the world could experience Toni’s musical stylings about how oatmilk is like milk but made for humans wasn’t the most Super Bowl-ish idea ever, but on the other hand, our attempt to promote Toni’s singing skills to a wider audience actually got you to visit an oatmilk company website on the big day. Total success!”
Although many found the commercial with the brand’s CEO singing rather strange, it appears as if the jingle has gotten imprinted on their minds. Soon after the commercial aired between the game, people rushed to Twitter to express their opinion about the recycled ad, with many praising it. Meanwhile, some even noted that it was better than the half time performance by Weeknd.
One tweeted, "I changed my mind after letting it sink in for a bit. I've been buying #Oatly vegan milk for a few months now, and I think it's awesome. That Oatly vegan #SuperBowlCommercials #SuperBowl ad was rad." While another added, "Everyone is talking about the Oatly commercial so it worked #oatly #SuperBowl." Adding to the above tweets one wrote, "I’m not watching the super bowl but my official stance is that the oatly commercial is Very Good Content."

Some have even dubbed Oatly's commercial as "the best", and one social media user said it was "better than The Weeknd performance". One tweeted, "The best commercial by far has to be the Oatly commercial, but the night isn’t over. There could be a second Oatly commercial. #SuperBowl." Another expressed, "Definitely discussing the @oatly commercial. OMG However, better than the weekend performance."
