Will Nova have a crossover with Guardians of the Galaxy in Marvel's Phase 4?

Going by comic history, Nova and Star-Lord along with the other members of Guardians of the Galaxy have battled together and may catch up at some point in the MCU
PUBLISHED MAY 29, 2019

The final few moments of 'Avengers: Endgame' had the Guardians of the Galaxy prepping for another new adventure, we're pretty sure they were trying to figure out the whereabouts of the 2014 version of Gamora (Zoe Saldana).

Will Thor (Chris Hemsworth) be the latest addition to the team? We don't know, but what we do want to know is if we'll see Nova, the intergalactic superhero, meet the Guardians at some stage going forward.

With Omnitos claiming that Nova's standalone film has made some serious headway into production, Marvel Studios is likely to make an announcement pretty soon. But until then, it's interesting to see if Nova will make an appearance in the James Gunn-directed 'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3', assuming the Nova standalone movie comes out only after 2022.

While it is unclear what the storyline for Vol 3 will be, we're sure that Nova will be there if the plot has anything to do with the Annihilation Wave. It could also be the other way around, and the Nova standalone movie could feature the Guardians?

The only remote connection that we have to Nova from previous movies comes after Thanos destroys Xandar to gain the power stone. Thor explains how the mad Titan gets his hands on the stone to the Guardians after they rescue him in 'Infinity War'. As per the comics, Xandar is also the home of the elite intergalactic police force called the Nova Corps, who are destroyed by Thanos, leaving the superhero as the last survivor.

Going by comic book history, Nova and Star-Lord have battled together. The latter has played prominent roles in 'Annihilation' (2006) and 'Annihilation: Conquest' (2007), and it's fair to speculate that the duo might catch up at some point in the fourth phase.

If Nova's standalone movie plot is loosely based on the Annihilation theory, then we may see the return of old characters as well as the introduction of new ones. The old ones include Rocket Raccoon, Gamora, Mantis, and Ronan, while the new ones could be Annihilus and Adam Warlock.

The alternate theory is the introduction of Galactus, who also fills in as the next big baddie that Marvel can look at after Thanos, but again, if it's a Nova origin story that Marvel is planning, then we may see Annihilus first.

For those unfamiliar with Nova, the superhero is a member of Nova Corps, with superhuman abilities including enhanced strength, flight, and resistance to injury and his origin story may see Richard Rider (Nova) battle Annihilus with some assistance from Guardians of the Galaxy, since most of the team have played key roles in taking on Annihilus in the comics.

But all this, of course, is pure speculation based on the comics and Marvel is known to have tweaked storylines in the past. But it does seem cool to have Nova having a crossover with the Guardians since it also features Thor.

In the meantime, MCU will round up phase 3, now officially known as the 'Infinity Saga,' with the release of 'Spider-Man: Far from Home' which will hit theaters on July 2.
