WINSTON-SALEM, NORTH CAROLINA: A teenager from Winston-Salem, North Carolina, has been arrested and charged after he allegedly threw a dog from a balcony and posted the attack on social media. The alleged attack on the animal left it badly injured on the ground below.

The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office said Jashon Tyrell Hampton was arrested without incident on Friday, May 22, and charged with felony animal cruelty. The 18-year-old’s arrest reportedly came after an unidentified person sent a copy of the video to the sheriff’s office on Wednesday, May 20. The animal abuse clip was reportedly posted on social media on May 19.

According to the authorities, in the video, Hampton was seen dropping the stray dog from the balcony, causing injuries to the dog that was visible in the clip. It was believed that the animal escaped further torment after the grotesque incident. Reports also claimed that deputies made several attempts to find the abused dog but did not succeed.

Meanwhile, the accused teen appeared before a magistrate and his bond was set at $1,000. The investigation into the case is still ongoing and deputies have urged people to call the sheriff’s office at 336-727-2112, or CrimeStoppers at 336-727-2800 if they have any information related to the case.

In another case of gross animal abuse, a 31-year-old man was arrested on Thursday, May 21, after a “lengthy investigation” found out he has allegedly been tying up ponies before sexually assaulting and injuring them. Michael Riego allegedly molested several ponies at Carousel Park and Equestrian Center in Wilmington, Delaware.

Riego was reportedly charged with felony bestiality and felony burglary. Additional charges might be file pending investigation. According to reports, the accused was arrested when he was spotted loitering around a pony's stall at approximately 12:30 am on May 21. Officials found him hiding in the corner and the pony's rear legs tied up. His arrest reportedly came after a month-long investigation after police officials received multiple complaints of injured ponies at Carousel Park. Staff members at the park had reportedly found the animals tied up with cords around their legs just above the hoof.

“The suspect was observed tying up the rear legs of the mare, removing articles of clothing, and ultimately sexually assaulting the horse,” the statement from police read. The statement also mentioned that all the injured ponies have since been “treated by an equine veterinarian and resumed normal daily activities.”

In another incident that happened in a zoo in Poland, a drunk man reportedly tried to drown an elderly bear after breaking into the animal’s enclosure in the zoo as horrified families watched. The exact date of the incident is not known but reports have claimed that the 23-year-old accused was caught on phone camera trying to fight and drown the animal at a Warsaw zoo in Poland after Covid-19 lockdown was lifted. The man is now facing prosecution for the attack on the bear named Sabina, who was rescued from a circus.

After the alleged incident, the zoo released a statement and said it “will take all legal steps related to this event to bring the perpetrator to justice” because “the animal was exposed to danger and her psychological comfort was disturbed”.
