TRINITY, NORTH CAROLINA: Arrest warrants filed in connection to the death of a toddler in North Carolina detail the horrific abuse the child was subjected to, including suffering from serious skin lesions and severe head lice.

Deputies from the Randolph County Sheriff's Office and Randolph County Emergency Services responded to the Jerry Street, Trinity residence of Kayle Danielle Royal, 20, on September 1 on reports of a toddler in cardiac arrest, according to WXII12.

The child was rushed to the Thomasville Medical Center for treatment, but could not be saved. During their subsequent investigation, the Randolph County Department of Social Services' Child Protective Services office learned that another child living at the same Jerry street residence had been sent to Brenner Children’s Hospital after suffering from "similar medical issues" as the child who died.

Arrest warrants state that one of the children was 13-months-old and that the other was two-years-old as of September 1, but did not specify which of the two had passed away.

It said Royal failed to "provide care for her minor child of 13 months old, knowing the child to have serious skin lesions found to be scabies which had grown bacterial infection, severe head lice along with medical conditions which were contributed by malnutrition."

It also said the 20-year-old failed to "provide care for her minor child of 2 years old, knowing the child to have serious skin lesions and severe head lice along with medical conditions which were contributed by malnutrition."

Royal was arrested on November 12 and is facing two counts of felony neglect child abuse causing serious injury in connection to the case, with investigators stating that more charges "may be forthcoming." She was released from custody after posting a $10,000 secured bond and is scheduled to make her next appearance in court on December 17.

The child who survived has since been released from the hospital and is in the custody of the DSS.
