Norma Hale: Nashville school shooter Audrey's mom turned anti-gun activist after Sandy Hook massacre

NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE: The mother of the Nashville school shooter is a gun control activist who vehemently campaigned to prevent mass shootings in the classroom. The school shooter's mother, Norma Fort Hale, once urged her friends on Facebook to join her in signing petitions to "Keep Guns Out of Schools” and “Make large-capacity gun magazines illegal."

Shooter Audrey Hale killed six people, including three 9-year-olds at The Covenant Schoolon Monday morning, March 27. The 28-year-old who was born biologically female identifies as transgender and according to his Linkedin profile states he/him is his preferred choice of pronouns. Police identified the three young victims namely Dieckhaus, Scruggs, and Kinney, who were pronounced dead upon arrival at the Monroe Carell Jr Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt. The other three faculty members killed were Cynthia Peak, and Mike Hill, both 61, and the school's headmistress, Katherine Koonce, 60. Audrey was fatally shot after two MNPD officers heard gunfire and engaged with him.

Who is Norma Fort Hale?

Norma Fort Hale shares two children, a son, and another identified as the shooter Audrey who stormed into a private Christian school killing six people. The mother of two, who appeared to be a strong gun control activist wrote on her Facebook page, “So important! Keep Guns Out of School” on March 8, 2018, after being radicalized by the Sandy Hook Promise massacre in 2012.

In another post, Norma shared another petition from Sandy Hook Promise urging lawmakers to “Make Large-Capacity Gun Magazines Illegal” on February 21, 2018. However, the webpage’s domain to the petition did not appear to exist anymore. Mayoral candidate Freddie O'Connell said, "Nashville has, sadly, today joined the communities that have experienced a school shooting," reported Mirror. "For now, my focus is turning to supporting the impacted families and revisiting our efforts to prevent these horrifying scenarios."

Norma spoke to ABC News after the 28-year-old was named as the shooter. She said: "It's very, very difficult right now. I think I lost my daughter today." Audrey was born female, and is believed to have been living as a man called Aiden. 

What was the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre?

On December 14, 2012, Shooter Adam Lanza stormed into Sandy Hook Elementary School and killed twenty-six people, including 20 children, in the Newtown, Connecticut school carnage. The tragic shooting even left then-president Barack Obama in tears. The 20-year-old Adam before engaging in the mass shooting had shot and killed his mother at their home. Soon after, first responders arrived at the school, Lanza died by suicide, shooting himself in the head.
