Derek Chauvin is reportedly living a very lonely life inside prison with no interaction at all. The former Minneapolis officer is serving 22 and half years of sentencing for killing George Floyd in May 2020. Currently, his time behind bars is under intense security and with few freedoms, TMZ reported.

As per reports, Chauvin has been held in the Administrative Control Unit, a sector of restrictive housing with extensive security inside Minnesota Correctional Facility-Oak Park Heights, for the last eight months. He was convicted in June 2021. It has been said that his every move is being monitored through cameras and prison guards keep checking on him every 30 minutes.

TMZ also quoted a representative for the facility saying “Chauvin remains isolated, without job opportunities, educational programs or contact with other inmates. Not only that... he showers, eats, goes to the bathroom and sleeps all in the same cell. We're told he gets about an hour each day outside his cell for exercise.”

Chauvin was sentenced in June 2021 for the May 2020 incident that sparked protests across the US demanding justice for the Black man who was killed over a fake bill. However, the convicted killer is awaiting another sentencing for violating Floyd's civil rights. The punishment for that crime carries a maximum of 25 years behind a prison cell. Reportedly, after the second sentence, Chauvin will be sent to a permanent facility.

Besides, other officers present with Chauvin on May 25, 2020, will also face trial over the murder of Floyd. Alexander Keung, Thomas Lane and Tou Thao will expectedly go on trial in March as they have been accused of aiding and abetting murder of Floyd.

Meanwhile, a lot of people have reacted online to Chauvin’s difficult time behind bars. A user tweeted, “The sad part about all of this is George Floyd did not have to lose his life and this cop does not have to be living a dismal life in jail. All of this was preventable but the world’s gone crazy.” The second user wrote, “Why are we giving him any attention at all? He had his 15 minutes of fame..unless he's died, this isn't news. George Floyd suffered inhumane conditions when he was murdered in the streets, Chauvin is living like a king imo.” “That man is a murderer and he deserves to be isolated from every one and every thing. He doesn’t need to be with humans. He deserves to sit, bathe, eat and live next to his filth,” the third user added.

A person shared: “TBH, No one will be happy in prison. But what a great start to 2022 though. Love seeing people suffer the consequences of their actions. 2022 will be the year of the KARMA coming back to bite folks & I [love] it. I already have my KARMA list of folks for this year....” Another one said, “Sounds like everything has fallen into place just as should have.”

A tweet read, “But does it feel like a knee on his neck until he stops breathing…. If not, be blessed.” Another tweet stated: “As dismal as that life is, it is infinitely better than the one being lived now by George Floyd.”
