Who is Nigel Malt? Father, 44, found guilty of murder after he ran over his daughter, 19, twice
NORFOLK, ENGLAND: A father from Lynn, who ran over his daughter in a “fit of rage” following an argument, has been found guilty of her murder. Nigel Malt, 44, was convicted recently by a jury of six women and six men at Norwich Crown Court following a four-week trial. Reaching a unanimous decision, the jury took just eight hours to return the verdict. Malt ran over his daughter Lauren Malt, 19, on January 23, 2022, outside her home in West Winch, Norfolk, England where she lived with her mother and younger siblings.
The court heard that on the evening of her murder, Malt had driven to Lauren's home where he argued with her and her partner. Prosecutor Andrew Jackson told jurors the pair had been arguing and Malt threatened Lauren's boyfriend Arthur Marnell with a crowbar before he "reversed his car into and knocked over his daughter".

"Having knocked her to the ground he then reversed his car over her," the barrister said according to Dailymail. "He stopped, then he drove the car forward again over her body. These actions killed Lauren Malt, and later examination of her body revealed bruising, lacerations and crushing injuries to her head, torso, arms, and legs," Jackson added.
As witnesses ran to Lauren’s aid, Malt got out of his car, picked Lauren up from the road, and put her in the front passenger footwell. Malt, who had been drinking, drove to a nearby shop where Lauren’s mother worked, before taking her to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in King’s Lynn.
Police had been alerted about a disturbance in a small cul-de-sac shortly before 7.30 pm and received multiple calls from neighbors, stating they had seen a woman deliberately being hit by a car. Units were deployed to the scene and to the hospital where Malt was arrested on suspicion of driving offenses, including drunk driving, and murder. He was taken into police custody and was questioned by detectives.
During the interrogation, Malt stated that he had reversed his car and thought he had hit a wheelie bin, so drove forward only to hear another bang. He told officers he got out of his car and then found Lauren underneath. When witness accounts of neighbors were revealed to him, he claimed that they were all lying. A post-mortem report stated that Lauren died of significant traumatic injuries to her chest and abdomen. Judge Anthony Bate adjourned the case for sentencing on a date to be fixed in August.

Malt’s black Mercedes C200 involved in the collision was seized at the hospital and taken for examination by crime scene investigators. Norfolk and Suffolk Major Investigation Team revealed Malt had been estranged from his family following several domestic violence incidents. The court heard that in 2019, Malt allegedly had once reversed his car toward Lauren in a threatening manner, almost hitting her leg. The matter was investigated at the time, but no further action was taken against Malt.
