On Thursday, June 18, Nick Cordero’s wife Amanda Kloots announced that the Broadway actor is still “so weak” even though he is on the road to recovery. Cordero’s battle with the novel coronavirus has been a long and painful one. Since he was admitted to the Cedar-Sinai Medical Center in California on April 1, Cordero’s condition worsened, leading to amputation and him being comatose.

Kloots, who is a fitness instructor, has from the very beginning, kept fans of Cordero regularly informed about his medical battle, and subsequent recovery.

Answering a series of questions from her social media followers, Kloots said the immediate concern was getting Cordero’s blood pressure under control. “The next goal is to get Nick’s blood pressure under control,” said Kloots. “That might mean that he has an infection, so they have to find this infection. Then after that, if they can get Nick’s blood pressure under control, it would be to get him onto intermittent dialysis.”

When a fan asked if Cordero has a release date from the hospital, Kloots said, “Unfortunately it could be months from now still. Best case scenario. We've got a long, long road ahead,” adding, “After Nick gets out of the hospital, 'cause he is getting out of this hospital, he would go to a rehab center and probably be at a rehab center for a year before even coming home. They say every week in the ICU is a month in rehab.”

She added, “What's so heartbreaking is that he's so weak. He's so weak that he still can't move and his muscles are definitely atrophying. This is really hard because what Nick has lost is muscle. His muscles are just atrophied.”

Kloots further said that Cordero had lost 65 pounds while in the hospital. When a fan asked if getting his weight back was a priority, Kloots said, “You can't really gain your muscle back until you can move, so they have him on some high protein and high-calorie food, but he's gotta move.”

“He can't talk because of the ventilator and he can't move because he's so weak, but he is awake and he's in there,” she told fans. “He can answer yes or no questions with his eyes.”

In a heartbreaking revelation, Kloots said that she wasn't sure if Cordero knew that his leg was amputated. "It is hard when I'm talking to Nick to understand exactly what he's understanding," she said. "I have told him about his leg, and I've told him about the amazing prosthetics that are available now, and I told him that he's gonna be fine."
