HOUSTON, TEXAS: Shocking surveillance footage captured the brutal robbery of a Texas woman, Nhung Truong, which left her paralyzed. Currently, police are pleading for public assistance to identify the suspect.

The situation turned into a terrifying ordeal for Nhung Truong when a man in his early 20s violently attacked her in what officials believe was a jugging incident. Truong, who had withdrawn money from the Bank of America on Blackhawk Boulevard, was followed by the suspect for nearly 24 miles away to a shopping center on the 9800 block of Bellaire.

In the surveillance footage, Truong can be seen walking in front of the shopping center before a man approaches her and grabs her from behind, causing her to drop her belongings. After that, the man then grabs what he thinks is an envelope of money before escaping from the spot. Seconds later, after realizing that he had picked up the wrong item, the suspect returned, picked Truong up, and violently body-slammed her to the ground. He then grabs the actual envelope of cash before fleeing the scene.

Police described the suspect as a black male in his early 20s, standing at approximately 5'8" and weighing 140 lbs.

Truong's injuries

The incident damaged her spinal cord, leaving the 44-year-old paralyzed. Doctors have told her family that there is only a 50-percent chance that Truong will fully recover. At present, she is unable to walk or use the bathroom by herself. Instead, she has to rely on a wheelchair, which is causing a lot of difficulties for her as she is a single mother of three children.

'I’m feeling very horrible'

In a report by FOX26, Truong's family claimed that the suspect stole around $4,300 from her, which Truong had apparently been saving up to visit her family in Vietnam after nearly six years.

"I’m feeling very horrible and sad at the same time. I can still go to school, but my mind is just messed up thinking about her, worrying that nobody is going to watch out for her," said An Duong, Truong's son.

"It’s been really bad. We have to pay rent and stuff, and she’s the only one that can work and help us. We don’t know what to do," said Van Duong, Truong's daughter. "If a miracle happens, then she can walk again," she added.

Truong, is now in rehab learning how to walk.“I just need to practice, try to walk and stuff,” she said before adding, “I’m very sad that this happened to me and I just want to let people know to be careful.”

Truong's mom, Nu, is heartbroken seeing her daughter suffer and has reflected on the hardships Turong has endured in her life, including losing her husband to cancer, seven years ago.

Truong's family has set up a fundraising campaign on GoFundMe to help raise funds for her medical expenses.
