Newborn baby abandoned in dumpster by 15-year-old California mom rescued

The mother has been found and has been admitted to a hospital but she would be cited for felony child abuse/endangerment.

A newborn baby was found abandoned in a dumpster in Stockton, California, and the mother, a 15 year old, has been identified. According to a report by People, she has been admitted to a hospital for medical treatment. The Stockton Police Department confirmed the news through a post on Facebook.

The post read "Today, at approximately ‪11.43 am‬, officers responded to the 5900 block of Village Green Drive on a report of a possible baby in the dumpster at the location. When officers arrived, they met with a citizen who told officers he thought he saw a baby wrapped up inside the dumpster. A newborn baby boy was found alive inside the dumpster and medics transported the baby to an area hospital for treatment. Please remember newborns can be safely surrendered to any firehouse or hospital emergency rooms in the City of Stockton within 72 hours of birth without fear of being prosecuted as long as the baby shows no signs of abuse or neglect."

Authorities had received a call from a local resident about the possibility of a baby abandoned at the dumpster. A search into the bin led to the discovery of a newborn baby boy who was taken to the local area hospital for further care. The mother was not in sight at the time of their arrival but she was located near the scene soon after. The Police Department said that "[She] is still in the hospital being treated but will be cited for felony child abuse/endangerment and will be released to her parents."

They posted this update on their Facebook page: "During this investigation, we located the teenage mother near the scene and she was transported to a hospital for treatment. As of now, the baby boy is doing well at the hospital and is in protective custody with child protective services." 

The investigation in this case is underway and authorities have requested information from anyone with regards to this case. They wrote on their post, "The Stockton Police Department is encouraging people to call if they have information pertaining to this investigation.
