New York Governor Andrew Cuomo on Friday signed a bill that will extend protection against discrimination to transgender people in the state. The bill also bans the use of conversion therapy on children, according to reports.
The bill was signed by the governor at the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Center in Manhattan and will reportedly add gender expression and identity as protected clauses in the state's human rights and hate crime laws, according to Daily Mail. Prohibition of conversion therapy being used on minors to change their sexual orientation was also one of the prime agendas the legislation was put in place for.
