Several nearby schools were placed under lockdown

One officer from the Farmington Police Department and another officer from New Mexico State Police were shifted to San Juan Regional Medical Center where they are treated for their gunshot wounds. Both are in stable condition. However, it remains unclear how many civilians were wounded in the shooting.

Following the shooting, Farmington Police Department shared an update at 1.54 pm to dismiss previous reports that there is a second suspect involved in the shooting and added that all the lockdowns have been lifted. The tragedy took place in the area of Brookside Park and several houses and vehicles were struck by bullets. According to Farmington Municipal Schools, within around 15 minutes of the incident, the Farmington Police Department requested four nearby schools to be placed under lockdown.

One of the victims who was shot in the arm was a 35-year-old male. In a Facebook post shared by a person who claimed to be working at the San Juan Regional Medical Center, he explained the moment a wounded officer reached the facility.

Investigation into the shooting is ongoing

A person claiming to work at the San Juan Regional Medical Center described on Facebook the moment an injured officer was brought to the facility. "I know, we saw the first police cars come in and one pulled an officer out of the back seat and dragged them inside. The ambulance entrance is right by my window. Many ambulances came in and out. Several ems personnel hugging and crying. The whole hospital is on lockdown. Made me very sad," the person wrote.

Though some lockdowns were lifted, Apache and McKinley elementary schools, CATE Center and Central Kitchen remained locked down on Monday afternoon. The San Juan Regional Medical Center where victims are treated for injuries was also placed under lockdown. The shooting is being investigated by officers from the New Mexico State Police, San Juan County Sheriff's Office, and the Farmington Police Department.
