PARIS, FRANCE: Netflix's latest movie 'The Wages of Fear' aka 'Le salaire de la peur', that released on Friday, March 29, has been a hit and miss for fans, leaving them divided in their opinion.

The 2024 remake of the original 1953 film depicts two brothers on a perilous mission, risking everything to transport nitroglycerin across treacherous terrain and save a village from explosion.

'The Wages of Fear' features a stellar cast that includes Franck Gastambide, Ana Girardot, and Alban Lenoir in lead roles, but has received mixed reviews from its viewers.

OG 1956 classic 'The Wages of Fear' fans fume over Netflix's 'c**p' remake

Fans took to X to share their opinions on the remake as one commented, "I like to think I’ve made my peace with remakes and can just calmly ignore the bad ones. But even at that: that new Wages of Fear looks utterly s**t."

Another viewer wrote, "New night of the hunter adaptation... high & low remake... wages of fear remake... it seems hollywoods newest business plan is to pump out remakes of movie so old that the general audience wont get mad at them because they dont even know the originals exist."

"An action heavy NETFLIX remake of WAGES OF FEAR, seems totally unnecessary. Just watch Sorcerer (the definitive word on the subject of this story) or the recently reissued (by @bfi) original instead," said one fan.

One fan who was extremely disappointed by the remake said, "The latest version of THE WAGES OF FEAR, fifth, is hack c**p. Two of them were masterpieces. One was a mediocrity. One was just junk. This one is garbage."

Criticizing the bland and lifeless screenplay of the film, one viewer commented, "After seeing Braqueurs’ steely capable men executing a job, and the tense crime drama in The Bouncer and Earth & Blood, Julien Leclercq tackling THE WAGES OF FEAR had promise. Sadly this reimagining is only lifelessly passable entertainment, offering only bland derivative thrills."

Few fans dub 'The Wages of Fear' a 'fascinating watch'

Some fans seem to be genuinely satisfied with 'The Wages of Fear' as one commented, "The new film captures neither of the dual meanings of the phrase "the wages of fear." They're not taking this challenge on for a wage AND it's not thematically about the cost of being afraid on how we lead our lives and our self-image. Still a good title, though."

One fan appreciating the movie wrote, "'The Wages of Fear' is a pretty decent movie. I enjoyed watching it. Thumbs up.", while another wrote "You know, THE WAGES OF FEAR is pretty good, but it could really use more high-speed chases where the drivers trade gunfire with faceless bad guys, and the trucks get hit with a bunch of bullets without exploding."

One fan even stood by the film saying, "I've seen people complaining about this movie because, "oh, it's different from the previous two versions". As if SORCERER and the original THE WAGES OF FEAR were carbon copies of each other. F**k that. I'm really looking forward to this one.", to which a fan replied, "Same yeah, the differences and the way they take this premise and put their own spin on it is what I think makes a lot of remakes (even the terrible ones) always a fascinating watch!"
