'Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba the Movie: Mugen Train' picks up where Season 1 of the anime left off, Tamado Tanjiro is on a quest to find and kill the demon Muzan, after he killed his entire family and turned his sister, the sole surviving member of the massacre into a demon. Tanjiro soon joins the demon slayer corps, an organization determined to end demons and Muzan himself. The movie follows the group as they face off against Enmu, the Lower Moon One and Akaza, the Upper Moon Three. While defeating Akaza is nearly impossible, there might be only one person capable of the same -- the flame hashira, Rengoku Kyojuro.

Who is the flame Hashira, Rengoku Kyojuro?

While Muzan has his upper and lower moons, a group of 12 of the strongest demons he has created, the Demon Slayer Corp has the Hashiras, a group of their strongest fighters.

These fighters have mastered a specific sword style or breathing technique known in the 'Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba', universe. Out of these 9 hashiras, there is Rengoku Kyojuro, the flame or fire Hashira. Rengoku comes from a long line of flame hashiras, seeing that his father was one as well.

He is a strong fighter and an unmatched swordsman, he is known for his bright and cheerful personality and for being a person that people can often depend on.

Rengoku takes his duties and convictions very seriously and works endlessly to protect all those around him. Although he lost his mother at a young age, he holds her memory close and honours the same by fighting and protecting the innocent.

Does Rengoku survive the fight against Akaza?

On 'Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba the Movie: Mugen Train', Rengoku Kyojuro, along with Tanjiro, Nezuko, Inosuke and Zentisu, investigate the mysterious disappearance that has been taken place on a train.

The group very quickly realise that it is the work of Muzan's lower moons, the demon named Enmu. While the group fights to defeat Enmu and all the other demons on the train, Akaza, an Upper Moon demon appears. Rengoku and Akaza go toe to toe in battle. Akaza is thoroughly impressed that Rengoku is strong enough to keep up with him and makes him an offer. He can either become a demon or die.

Rengoku refuses and says that the beauty in being a human is to die, and he wishes to do so honourably. The fight between the two continues -- it's not hard to see that Rengoku is very similar to Akaza's previous human self and his former master Keizo, which is what draws Akaza to him.

However, Rengoku is unable to withstand the demons brute force. In his final moments, he remembers what his mother wished for him, that he should use his strength to protect those around him. Even in his dying moments, Rengoku nearly defeats Akaza, who barely manages to escape in time. Although Rengoku dies, he does so with a smile on his face.
