The upcoming documentary is based on a man named Maximilian Schmidt who became a real-life drug lord in Germany during his teenage. Maximilian’s story was the inspiration behind the Netflix series ‘How to Sell Drugs Online (Fast)'. The case of Maximilian was widely covered in the German media and it is still one of the largest cybercrime cases known in Germany.

Release date and how to watch

‘Shiny_Flakes: The Teenage Drug Lord’ will be premiering exclusively on Netflix on August 3, 2021, at 3 am EST. Viewers can download the app from Google Play Store and Apple’s App Store to watch the documentary. Meanwhile, all three seasons of ‘How to Sell Drugs Online (Fast)’ are also available for streaming on Netflix.

Plot

“This is the true story that inspired the hit German Original Series ‘How to Sell Drugs Online (Fast)’. In February 2015, Maximilian Schmidt, known online as Shiny Flakes, was arrested for selling approx. 4.1 million euros worth of drugs - from his childhood bedroom. Using his own website shinyflakes.com and the German postal service, at 19-years old he ran an international drugs empire by himself - selling one tonne of drugs over 14 months. It’s one of the largest cybercrime cases known in Germany, and the police still don’t know where most of the money is. In this documentary, Maximilian tells his story.”

Cast

The documentary will feature Maximilian Schmidt talking about how he built his and became ran an international drug empire. It will also have interviews with all the people who were related to the case.

Creators

The 96-minutes documentary is being directed by Michael Schmitt and penned by Eva Muller.

Schmitt is considered to be one of the most talented documentary makers of this generation and has directed projects such as ‘San Augustin: Low Tide in the Plastic Sea’, ‘Streetphilosophy’, and ‘All I Ever Wanted’.

Muller also serves as a producer on the venture along with Matthias Murmann, who is also a producer of ‘How to Sell Drugs Online (Fast)’.
