‘Skylines’ season 1: Release date, plot, cast, trailer and everything you need to know about Netflix's German crime drama

Here is all you need to know about Netflix's latest offering, a German drama series based on music and drugs in Frankfurt.

Set in Frankfurt, Netflix’s upcoming German drama explores the music and drug scene in Germany. The show revolves around a young music producer, who accidentally finds himself enmeshed in the world of drugs when the record label he has been signed up by gets into the drug trafficking business.

Release date

Season 1 of 'Skylines' is slated to premiere on Friday, September 27, only on Netflix.

Plot

The show revolves around a very young and gifted hip-hop music producer Jinn (played by Edin Hasanovic). Jinn gets a gig of his dreams when he signs with the top label- Skyline Records, which is owned by famous rapper Kalifa (played by Murathan Muslu). Kalifa's brother Ardan (played by Erdal Yildiz) is back from exile and is determined to get his share. So, Ardan begins using the record label as a front for his drug-peddling activities, as Jinn struggles to further his career as music producer with a record label which is heavily involved in criminal activities. Sara (played by Peri Baumeister), is a police officer who is investigating the record label. The show is set in Frankfurt, and explores the music and drug scene.

Netflix summarizes the show as, "A hip-hop producer gets hurled into the violent world of organized crime when the record label he signs to becomes the center of a deadly drug business."

Edin Hasanovic

German actor Edin Hasanovic will be playing the lead role of Jinn, a young music producer who finds himself in the midst of music and drug scene after he signs up for a record label. Hasanovic has acted in several short films, television series and movies earlier. His notable works include, 'Tatort', 'Mein Ende. Dein Anfang. ', and 'You Are Wanted'. 

Murathan Muslu

Muslu is an Austrian actor who will be reprising the role of rapper Kalifa on 'Skylines'. Kalifa owns the record label 'Skyline Records'. He is best known for acting in 'Cracks in Concrete', 'Anna Fucking Molnar' and 'Tatort'. 

Peri Baumeister

Baumeister plays the role of police officer Sara who investigates the infamous record label 'Skyline Records'. Baumeister is a German actress who is the daughter of famous German actor Edwin Noel. Her notable works include ' Irre sind männlich', 'The Saboteurs' and 'Unsere Zeit ist jetzt'.

Erdal Yildiz

Yildiz plays the role of Kalifa's brother Ardan. Ardan is back from exile and wants his share in the record label. He begins to get the label involved in the criminal activity of drug-peddling. Yildiz is a Turkish actor who is best known for  'Collide', 'Halka', and 'Tatort'.

The script has been authored by the head author- Dennis Schanz and the authors Oliver Karan, Ole Lohmann, and Kim Zimmermann. It has been directed by directors Max Erlenwein and Soleen Yusef, and produced by  Maren Ade who directed, wrote and produced Oscar-nominated film 'Toni Erdmann'.
