OAK PARK, ILLINOIS: A video has appalled everyone after being surfaced online showing a minor wrestler hitting his rival in the face following the match. The incident reportedly happened earlier in April during a wrestling match in Oak Park, Illinois, at 2023’s edition of the Beat the Street Developmental FS tournament, which includes children of age eight to 18.

The two wrestlers who competed against each other were Cooper Corder, from SPAR Academy and the other one was Hafid Alicea, representing Maine West High School. The former defeated Alicea by a scoreline of 14-2, TMZ Sports reported. Following the tournament, when Corder, wearing an orange singlet, approached his competitor to shake hands, he received a hard blow to his face in return.

'It’s not tolerated in our sport'

Soon, the victim was provided with an assisstance. It has been said that he suffered a nose injury but has now almost recovered. SPAR Academy Founder Justin Pearch said, “He is making the best of the situation and is already back to training. As you may know, wrestling matches can get heated but nothing leading up to the punch would give cause to such bad decision-making on the opponent's part,” before adding, “It’s not tolerated in our sport and Spar Wrestling will never condone that behavior.” Also, according to Oak Park Police Deptartment spokesperson, the incident is under probe and the parents of both wrestlers are working with cops.

'Accept your result'

Meanwhile, the footage of the assault has received a lot of attention online with a user tweeting, “He should be banned by the USA and charged with something.” Another user commented, “Charge him with assault. No place for that in our sport.” “Kid in blue needs to go to jail. Coach suspended and school needs to think about expulsion,” the third one suggested.

The fourth user remarked, “Arrest him - File charges and saddle his parents with thousands of dollars in legal fees - THEN - Maybe the parents will get this kid the psychological assistance he clearly needs!” “School from the area….Smh….’Leave it all on the mat’ kid. If you have the energy and anger left to do that after being dominated…You should’ve used it all during the match instead of quitting. Accept YOUR result. That’s bogus weak loser mentality,” the fifth one stated.

A person shared, “Ok I saw a shortened video earlier, but this makes it worse, I thought maybe kid was mad at a cheap shot or something, just a sore loser.” Another one added, “This is not a heated ‘in the moment’ reaction. He took at least 8 seconds from the time the match ended to think about and plan this assault. And yea, it is an assault. Anyone saying the attacker should be ‘protected’ by not showing this video is part of the problem. JMHO.”
