In the first episode of ‘NCIS: New Orleans’ Season 7, we see the team grappling with the coronavirus pandemic. The name, ‘Something in the Air’, makes sense for the episode. The second episode is also called that, but it’s part two of that story.

So, we can be sure that the pandemic will still play a huge role in the story. We have already seen Pride (Scott Bakula) suffer because of it. His bar has been shut and he has barely any money to pay the workers who can no longer work there. But he continues to be charitable. Dr. Loreta Wade (CCH Pounder) plays a major role, obviously. Through her, we see the quantum of damage caused by the pandemic as people she knows and cares for die tragically due to it.

We see Sebastian (Rob Kerkovich) act like a germaphobe, as he prepares pandemic survival kits for his teammates. But the people who are in action are Gregorio (Vanessa Ferlito) and Carter (Charles Michael Davis). After learning about the suspicious death of Lt. Paula Cooke on a humanitarian ship, owned by Eternal Hope, Gregorio and Carter go onboard to investigate.

There they find that the death was not an accident. Cooke has a wound on her head, caused by an object, and so it is confirmed that she was murdered. But Gregorio and Carter cannot leave the ship since the vessel is not allowed to dock thanks to the disease. The duo also discovers discrepancies in the financials of the ship. When Gregorio and Carter head to the cargo deck to retrace Cooke's steps, they find it on fire.

So, we have a cliffhanger. As per CBS’s official synopsis of ‘NCIS: New Orleans’ Season 7 Episode 2: “Tammy and Carter continue to investigate a suspicious death aboard a COVID-infected humanitarian ship; Pride and the team discover what may be the key to finding the killer; Wade helps a grieving woman.”

While it is difficult to guess about how the murder mystery will be solved, one can be sure that both Carter and Gregorio will be alright. After all, Carter just entered the show late last season. And Gregorio is an indispensable character. Yes, fans were worried about what would happen to them but it is too early in the season to have any major deaths.

Wade helping a grieving woman makes sense because episode 1 saw a tonne of dead bodies continuing to arrive at the morgue because of the pandemic. And the show is known to incorporate real-life events into its story to give it a more human angle as compared to other law enforcement dramas.

Curiously, Hannah (Necar Zadegan) seems to be missing from the synopsis. She was busy trying to get her daughter back home last episode. But she also has a meeting with a senior official that is supposed to happen in the coming episode. She seemed worried, but Pride told her to relax.

'NCIS: New Orleans' airs on Sundays at 9 pm only on CBS.
