'New Amsterdam' has a ton of lovable characters, but one of the fan-favorites on the show is the Indian doctor on the show winning hearts all over.

Dr. Vijay Kapoor, played by Bollywood actor Anupam Kher, is the head of the neurological department at New Amsterdam Public Hospital. He is the only Indian doctor on the crew and adds his own masala to the plot.

Working alongside Dr. Max (Ryan Eggold) and the rest of the team, the widower is precautious, calm and very understanding. In his personal life, Kapoor is harsh to his son Rohan (Vandit Bhatt). He does not realize that there is a rift between them and involves himself so much in the hospital that he fails to see how his son feels.

There was a small glitch between the father-son duo when Kapoor loaned some money to Ella (Dierdre Friel), the cafeteria lady. When Rohan came to ask him to help him financially, Kapoor outrightly refuses. Rohan gets upset with Kapoor's generosity towards Ella. He feels that his dad does not trust him as he is a recovering addict.

For Kapoor to accept the fact that his son is a drug addict was something he could not bear, especially since his wife was not around anymore. He even got to know that Ella and Rohan were in a relationship and is rude to her.

Later, Kapoor goes to Ella to apologize for the way he behaved and attempts to salvage their friendship. However, he notices her wearing a bracelet that belonged to his late wife when she was serving him coffee. He is shattered and walks away thinking about the box he had of all his wife's jewelry.

When Ella understands the sentiment attached to the ornament, she offers to hand it back to him and says "Rohan gave it to me". He tears up and then heart-warmingly decides to give his son and Ella's relationship a chance. He gives the box to Ella saying "My wife would have loved for you to have it".

This gesture and all his kind qualities is what makes Kapoor such a lovable character. Catch season two on NBC on September 24.
