Naya Rivera's body found on Cory Monteith's 7th death anniversary, 'Glee' fans pay 'If I Die Young' tribute
The 33-year-old ‘Glee’ star Naya Rivera was declared dead today, July 13, after cops recovered her body from Lake Piru. The news regarding the tragic death of the actress has left fans, friends and family highly disappointed as they hoped until the last moment she would be found alive.
While most on social media are mourning her loss, many have praised her for sacrificing her own life to save her four-year-old son Josey, who was found floating alone on the rented boat on the day she went missing.
However, ‘Glee’ fans aren’t able to stop thinking about one of her performances on ‘If I Die Young’ for her co-star Cory Monteith. The Canadian actor passed away in 2013 aged 31, due to the toxic combination of alcohol and heroin. However, what comes across as a shock is the eerie coincidence that Rivera’s body was recovered the same day as Cory’s demise, which is on July 13th.
Many fans took to Twitter to note that the entertainment industry lost two talented stars on the same day seven years apart. “I'm completely heartbroken.today is cory monteith's death anniversary, and today is also the day naya rivera's body was discovered.remembering the both of you today. i love you both.” wrote one.
“I like to think Cory spent the anniversary of his death helping them find her from the other side...RIP angels, you will live on in our memories! #RIPNayaRivera Here’s and edit I made for you both! I hope you know you’re loved and that we’ll miss you!!!” added another.
Meanwhile, fans paid tribute to her on-screen character Santana Lopez, who became an icon among the LGBTQ+ community members. “You know I will always love you the most..It's no secret I watch or listen to Glee every single day. Naya and Santana specifically changed my life and shaped my personality. Her impact on a generation of queer youth is incomprehensible and I'll never stop celebrating her” wrote one fan.
Another added, “I will always be grateful for glee and specially naya rivera as santana lopez, I struggled with myself a constant doubts to acceptance, i felt identified with santana and then i slowly understand my feelings and love... always cried but felt inderstood." (sic)
