Naya Rivera’s ex-husband Ryan Dorsey breaks silence about her death in heartbreaking post: ‘This is so unfair’

"I can't believe this is life now. I don't know if I'll ever believe it. You were just here,” Dorsey wrote. “We were just in the back swimming with Josey the day before. Life just isn't fair"

Ryan Dorsey, Naya Rivera’s ex-husband, finally opened up about Rivera’s death. The 33-year-old ‘Glee’ actor accidentally drowned while swimming at Lake Piru in Ventura County, California, with her son Josey, who she shares with Dorsey. Law officials recovered Rivera's body from the water on July 13, five days after she was reported missing.

On Saturday, July 25, the 37-year-old actor shared a tribute to Rivera on his Instagram account. Alongside a photo of Rivera and Josey, Dorsey wrote, “This is so unfair." He further said, “There's not enough words to express the hole left in everyone's hearts. I can't believe this is life now. I don't know if I'll ever believe it. You were just here.”

“We were just in the back swimming with Josey the day before. Life just isn't fair. I don't know what to say,” wrote Dorsey. “I'm thankful for our times and our journey that brought us together and gave us the sweetest and kindest smart little boy we could ever hope for. I remember sometimes you used to get annoyed at me: ‘Ryan can you stop snap chatting!’ Haha. I'm glad I didn't listen to you because I have hundreds and probably thousands of snaps and videos that Josey will have forever and know his momma loved him more than life, and how much fun we had together as he was growing up.”

“Life is all about good times and bad times but with Josey, it makes the bad a little less so because a part of you will always be with us. He'll never forget where he came from. We miss you. We will always love you. Love you Meep,” he said.

Talking about people reaching out to him in the wake of Rivera’s death, Dorsey continued, “To everyone that reached out and I haven't had a chance to or just didn't get back to you… Thank you all for the overwhelming love and support you've sent our way. I'll just say in closing, be kind to yourself, be kind to others, forgive… forget… don't hold grudges… if you have nothing nice to say maybe try not to say anything.”

“There's peace in silence. Time on Earth is precious and you just never know....you never know what could happen. Hold your loved ones close, and cherish the times you have with those you care about,” he concluded.

Dorsey and Rivera were married from 2014 to 2018. The two first started to date in 2010. Four years later, in July 2014, they surprised fans when they tied the knot in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, just three months after the ‘Glee’ star broke off her engagement to rapper Big Sean. Rivera, however, had filed for divorce twice before finalizing it in June 2018.

Just three months before Rivera died, she and Dorsey agreed to joint physical custody of their son. In a "stipulation and order modifying judgment revisitation," filed March 26, Rivera and Dorsey agreed to "an equal timeshare to be mutually agreed upon by the parties consistent with the schedules of each party and the minor child." They also agreed that they would "equally divide all holidays, vacation time, pupil-free days, and summer vacation".

"The Parties shall share joint physical custody of the minor child with [Rivera] having primary physical custody of the minor child. [Dorsey] shall be afforded frequent and meaningful custodial contact with the minor child according to" an outlined schedule, the legal documents said.
