History of National Empanada Day

Empanadas are created by enclosing a seasoned filling in bread or dough. Here are the recipes you can try at home.

Apple Empanadas

Ingredients: Apples, cinnamon powder, nutmeg powder, brown sugar, vanilla extract, puff pastry sheet, all-purpose flour, and caster sugar.

1. Core and thinly slice the apples into wedges.

2. Toss the apple slices into a medium skillet and add cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla, and brown sugar.

3. Cook until the apples have softened.

4. Roll out pastry dough to 1/4 inch thick.

5. Place filling in the center of the dough circle for empanadas.

6. Fold the dough into a half circle, press edges together, deep fry, drain excess oil, and serve with powdered sugar.



 

Mushroom Empanadas 

Ingredients: Oil, onion, carrot, button mushrooms, cloves, bell pepper, parsley, basil, soy sauce, white pepper powder, salt, and puff pastry sheet.

1. Saute the onion in heated oil till tender.

2. Add the soya sauce, carrot, garlic, bell pepper, and mushrooms, and simmer until the water is evaporated.

3. Turn down the heat and add basil, parsley, salt, and pepper.

4. Roll out pastry dough to 1/4 inch thick.

5. Place filling in the center of the dough circle for empanadas.

6. Fold the dough into a half circle, press edges together, deep fry, drain excess oil, and serve.



 

Keto Empanadas

Ingredients: Avocado Oil, lean ground beef, small onion, garlic, salt, black pepper, ground cumin, smoked paprika, mozzarella cheese, cream cheese, almond flour, and egg.

1. Cook ground beef, onion, garlic, and spices in oil, then drain and set aside.

2. Add all other ingredients.

3. Fathead dough is rolled thin and cut into circles.

4. Place filling on each dough circle, then fold over to make a half-circle and pinch the edges closed and bake until puffy and golden.
