National Chickpea Day is observed on April 21 every year. The magnificent legume, chickpea, which is a common ingredient in Mediterranean and Middle Eastern cuisine is celebrated on this day. It is the key ingredient of traditional falafel and hummus dishes.

One of the oldest legumes to be domesticated was the chickpea, which was discovered in the Middle East 7,500 years ago. Neolithic pottery from Hacilar, Turkey, Greece, France, and other parts of Europe also included them. 'Chickpea' appeared in English text for the first time in 1338, and dictionaries cited it again in the middle of the 18th century.
