Does Natalie Portman's surprise appearance at 'Avengers: Endgame' premiere mean she's back in the MCU fold?
Well, it looks like we may see Dr. Jane Foster back to lend a hand in saving the world once again.
Natalie Portman, who plays Jane Foster, Thor's (Chris Hemsworth) love interest in 'Thor' and 'Thor: The Dark World' was seen during the premiere of 'Avengers: Endgame' at Los Angeles on Monday.
Her appearance has sent fans speculating if she will reprise her role in the final installment of the Infinity saga and there a few theories that fuel these speculations.
Time travel in 'Endgame' may see Thor reunite with Foster
That the Avengers will go back in time (In a bid to retrieve the stones? Or rather that is the aptest reason why they go back to the past) is pretty much of a confirmation. Does that mean that Thor will have a chance to reunite with his love? While her last appearance was in 'Thor: The Dark World,' and later on it was presumed that the duo broke up, there were passing mentions of the astrophysicist, notably when Thor and Tony Stark (Rober Downey Jr.) brag about their girlfriends in 'Avengers: Age of Ultron.'
Was Foster was a victim of Thanos' snap?
Half of the superheroes were snapped and so was half the world. Does that mean Foster was one of the snap victims and maybe she would be bought back at the end of the movie? If so, would it also mean that she would get back with Thor and the duo would have more adventures together, assuming that the God of Thunder makes it out alive after the team's final showdown with Thanos?
Is she the new Valkyrie?
Could be. According to comic book, 'War of the Realms #2' the miniseries that is currently the attention-grabber in the Marvel comics world, announced that Jane Foster will be a valkyrie since all of them are dead by the end of 'War of the Realms #1.' While this plotline is pretty much from the comics, it hasn't stopped the directors from borrowing a few plot points. Alternatively, she may be one of the Valkyries along with the current one, Scrapper 142 aka a Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) going into the fourth phase.
Portman was open to reprising her Marvel role
Talking to Screenrant, Portman said that she was open to reprising her Marvel role. While her character didn't have the depth that Thompson's Valkyrie did, the possibility of her getting a more deeper role to play in the near future cannot be ruled out. In a 2016 interview with The Wall Street Journal, Portman said that while the movies were "a great thing to be a part of," she was "done" with Marvel Cinematic Universe.
While it is still unclear why she was part of the premiere, it's not long before we find out the answer when 'Avengers: Endgame' hits the screens on April 26.
