Nancy Pelosi was narrowly re-elected on Sunday, January 3, as a speaker, giving her the reins of Democrats’ slender House majority as President-elect Joe Biden sets a challenging course of producing legislation to tackle the pandemic, revive the economy and address other party priorities. The Democrats opened with the starting prayer, which ended with “Amen and Awoman," and in no time people slammed Democrats for the action.

The California Democrat, Pelosi, who has led her party in the House since 2003 and is the only woman to be speaker, had been widely expected to retain her post. Ms. Pelosi received 216 votes to 209 for Rep. Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., who again will be the chamber’s minority leader. 

The prayer started like, "We ask it in the name of the monotheistic God, Brahma, and the god known by many different names, Amen and Awoman."

What is the meaning of 'Amen'?

Amen is commonly used after a prayer, creed or other formal statements. It is spoken to express solemn ratification or agreement. According to Christianity.com, "The term amen meaning “so be it” as found in the early scriptures of the Bible is a word of Hebrew origin. It originated in the Hebrew Scriptures, as a reply of confirmation, and is found in Deuteronomy as an affirmative response made by the people. Furthermore, in the Books of Chronicles, it is designated that near 1000 BC, the word is used in its religious meaning, with the people responding with "amen" to receiving the blessing: "Blessed be the Lord God of Israel from now and unto all eternity"."

As soon as Dem's “amen and awoman," statement came to light people started slamming them, as one Internet user said, "Dems open congress with a prayer that ends “amen and awoman.” Amen is a Latin word that means “truly” or “so be it.” Awoman is a nonsense word that means nothing. Dems find a way to make everything stupid and nonsensical. Utter clowns, all of them." While another one wrote, "they infiltrate everything to destroy it from the inside even religion"

Matt Gaetz said, "Amen and Awoman?!?! Don’t they know that gender isn’t binary??? What about the other 42 genders?? " While another one wrote, "The funny part is is amen is not a gender it is literally Hebrew for let It be done they're just trying to look woke"
