The 2021 version of ‘Name That Tune’ on FOX tests contestants’ music knowledge as they battle it out in an assortment of challenging musical games for cash and prizes. Each episode consists of two standalone half-hour contests, each pitting two players against each other as they race against the clock to test their knowledge of songs, performed by the live band. Tony Award winner Jane Krakowski hosts the show and Grammy Award-winning producer Randy Jackson serves as band leader.

Stevie and Surfer compete against each other on the premiere episode of the show. While Stevie is a professional surfer, Chip works for a pest control company but dreams of completing college one day once he has enough money for it. Throughout the competition they have the opportunity to win prize money ranging from $1000 to $6000 by guessing the right song and the one who has collected the most amount of cash makes it to the final round.

The first two rounds in the game are a guessing round and a bidding round. In the first round, the contestant first picks a category such as ‘Party on’ and the live band plays a melody from which the contestant guesses the song. The first one to hit the buzzer gets the opportunity to answer. With each category, the prize money increases. In the second round, host Jane Krakowski gives a hint and the contestants bid on how many notes they can guess the song. The one who bids on the lowest note gets the opportunity to answer. If the answer is wrong or the time is up, it is passed on to the next contestant. At no point do the contestants lose any money they previously won.

While Stevie and Chip started off neck to neck, Chip ran into a stroke of good luck and won a total of $36,000 that landed him in the final round. Chip had lost his father a few years ago and the happiest memory he has of him was listening to music together. He said no matter what they did, there would always be music playing in the background.

In the Golden Buzzer round, he had to guess seven songs back to back in 30 seconds. The contestant can skip a song and circle back to it later. Chip, with his razor sharp music memory, guessed each song almost immediately except for one but he had enough time left towards the end to circle back to it and he finally guessed the song which was ‘Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now’ by Starship. In fact, nothing did stop him as he went on to win $100,000 in the very first episode, setting very high standards for upcoming contestants. After winning, Chip was in tears and said he felt his father’s spirit with him.
