TULSA, OKLAHOMA: A naked man who allegedly escaped police custody, died after jumping into a pond to avoid arrest. The Tulsa troopers explaining the tragic death said they had received a call at the Shoreline apartment and upon arriving they arrested the naked man for burglary and handcuffed him before he made a break for it.
On Thursday, October 27 police arrived at the Tulsa Shoreline apartment clubhouse and discovered a shattered front door and the naked suspect. Tulsa troopers claimed the man during the arrest remained cooperative. The handcuffed burglar broke free when the police were conducting an investigation where they found clothing scattered around the office of the clubhouse.

The Tulsa Police reportedly claimed the man kicked open the clubhouse's back door and jumped over a patio railing into the pond. Horrified officers immediately chased the suspect into the water and tried to rescue him. Police report that the conditions were "challenging" as they tried to rescue the man. "For someone who is in custody to decide to A run from the police, to begin with, and B kick open a door, jump over a railing, into a pond, yes it’s tragic," Captain Richard Meulenberg told News on 6.
“They go under the water looking for him, they saw him in the water, tried to get further in, and with all their gear and everything else, couldn’t find the suspect at that point." Meulenberg added, “You gotta remember, it’s pitch dark, and officers were out there literally trying to feel around, so when they jumped into the water, they could see him go down." Furthermore, the Tulsa Police Dive Team was called to the scene and they recovered the suspect's body which was in about 10 feet of murky water, according to the source.
The police are probing the case as they look to notify the man's next of kin. Meulenberg speaking of the tragic incident added, “This person was in our custody, and we are obviously responsible for his safety, but at some point when someone’s going to make a series of terrible decisions on their own, we can only do so much,"
The suspect's identity remains unknown.
