'Mythic Quest: Raven's Banquet' spent four episodes explaining the quirks of the video game industry, introducing us to the eccentric bunch at the office behind the biggest multimedia game in the world. It took potshots at 'Nazi' players, ingrained sexism in the industry and predatory monetization. The fifth episode was a pleasant and bittersweet detour. It focussed on the development of the studio itself and delivered one of the best episodes from the show.

The episode begins with Doc Michael (Jake Johnson) and Bean (Cristin Milioti) meeting at a local store and striking up a conversation about video games. Doc produces video games and Bean is an avid fan of video games. They fall in love and decide to produce their dream game together, titled 'A Dark, Quiet Death'. This game turns out to be a massive success. This spurs them on to make a sequel and buy the building that we've seen in the show till now.

However, with more success, comes more pressure and strain. The cracks begin to reveal themselves in the relationship and the couple stops seeing eye to eye. The publisher wants them to emulate their vision according to his. Doc is willing to accept this, but Bean is determined to stay true to her dream. Their marriage falls apart and they're divorced in time. Cut to a few years ahead, Doc is unhappy that he no longer has control over his game, as the marketing agents want to continue adding more elements. The team wants a muppet to appeal to kids and Doc puts his foot down -  him or the muppet.

Unfortunately, that conversation does not have a happy ending. Years later, Doc is browsing the video game selections at the store, runs into Bean again. She is now married to someone else. They have a conversation, that is similar to the first one they had. There is a tense bittersweet moment as Doc looks at her rather wistfully.

While the episode does have comedy, it was more of an emotionally charged romantic drama, with heartfelt emotion. Now, we are curious to know when we'll meet these unusual characters again. Kudos to the show for introducing these two random characters and to draw viewers into their tale.
