Lady Frances Grey (Anna Chancellor) asks her daughter Jane (Emily Bader) to marry Lord Guildford Dudley (Edward Bluemel), a distinguished English nobleman from a prominent family.

Despite her mother's insistence, Jane firmly declares that she has no desire to get married. This bold refusal creates significant tension between Jane and her mother, as Lady Frances is determined to see the marriage take place for the family's benefit.

Desperate to escape the unwanted marriage, Jane devises a daring plan to run away with her maid and close friend, Susannah (Máiréad Tyers).

However, their plans are thwarted when Lady Frances, ever vigilant and determined, captures both Jane and Susanna before they can make their escape.

In the midst of this turmoil, Susanna transforms into a bird and flies away. Susannah is an Ethian, a being with the extraordinary ability to shapeshift into various animals.

However, Lady Frances remains focused on her goal of marrying Jane to Lord Guildford. Jane, feeling increasingly trapped by her mother's relentless pressure to marry, begins to meticulously devise another plan to escape the impending nuptials.

As the episode progresses, Jane, driven by her determination to find a way out of her unwanted marriage, decides to seek an alliance with King Edward VI (Jordan Peters), her cousin.

Upon her arrival at the royal court, Jane faces numerous challenges as Edward VI tells her to marry Lord Guildford.

Later, as Edward VI's health deteriorates and the political uncertainty surrounding the succession intensifies, he nears death. In a desperate attempt to save him, Jane uses a flower tonic, which miraculously saves him.

As the episode unfolds, Jane attends a lavish party that brings together both shapeshifters and humans, a rare and fascinating event that highlights the coexistence of these two worlds.

Subsequently, Jane's attention is captured by an extraordinarily attractive man standing across the room. He exudes a magnetic presence, drawing the attention of those around him. His striking features and confident demeanor set him apart, and Jane feels an inexplicable attraction toward him.

They eventually strike up a conversation, and Jane quickly realizes that there is more to this man than meets the eye. Later on, a riot breaks out between shapeshifters and humans, creating chaos and panic at the party.

Amid the turmoil, Jane is captured by the authorities who mistake her for a shapeshifter. She is forcibly taken toward a place well-known for being an execution site where shapeshifters are drowned.

However, Lady Frances arrives just in time to save Jane from being drowned. She confronts the authorities and, using her influence and authority, demands Jane's release. Jane is taken back to Lady Frances's estate.

She informs Jane that the marriage to Lord Guildford will proceed as planned and that she must prepare for the wedding, which is now set for the very next day.

As Jane stands in the aisle, she looks up and sees the same mysterious and attractive man she met at the party. To her shock, she realizes that the man she felt an inexplicable connection with is none other than Lord Guildford, the very person she is about to marry.

As the ceremony progresses, Lord Guildford confidently says "I do," and just as Jane is about to say the same, blood suddenly comes out of her mouth and she faints.

Was Jane's sudden collapse part of a premeditated plan to avoid marrying Lord Guildford, or is she genuinely ill? Only time will tell.
