Fans have been hoping for a reunion between vocalist Gerard Way, bassist Mikey Way and guitarists Frank Iero and Ray Toro pretty much since they called it quits back in March 2013. MCR's reunion had initially hinted on September 7 when 'The Get Up Kids' had taken to Twitter to share that the keyboardist James Dewees was no longer a member and gave no explanation. After their 2013 breakup, Way had revealed that everyone had remained amicable.

He also said that the fans should not "count a reunion out". While speaking to Billboard in 2017, he shared, "But at the same time everybody's doing stuff in their lives now that they're really enjoying. In some ways I don't really miss it; It had gotten so big it was very unwieldy. It took a toll on my mental life and personal life. "

"The thing I'm happiest about right now is everybody's relationships with each other are really strong. That's more important than anything else to me," he continued. Many fans and followers took to social media to express their delight and excitement at the announcement.

One fan shared, "I just got so emo I fell apart. Seriously. Best Halloween ever omg". Another added, "im crying I can't. It was all true !!! I was right all those months ago! I'm fucking sobbing. It was worth staying alive for 😭❤️ they're back CAN YA HEAR ME?! ❤️❤️".

Earlier on this year, Way and guitarist Ray Toro had recorded covers of Simon & Garfunkel's Hazy Shade Of Winter and The Turtles' Happy Together for the Netflix show 'The Umbrella Academy'. While the band was active, My Chemical Romance released four full-length albums, the last being Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys in 2010.
