Spoilers for 'My Brilliant Friend' Season 2 Episode 8 'The Blue Fairy'

If you are a reader of the books, Season 2 finale of 'My Brilliant Friend' would have hardly come as a surprise. But when Nino Sarratore (Francesco Serpico) showed up at the launch of Elena Greco aka Lenu's (Margherita Mazzucco) first book, fans of the show weren't quite as happy as her.

"Ok so nino looks like he’s long overdue for a shower. Just not the hot kid that they’re trying to make us believe he is. #MyBrilliantFriend," tweeted one. Mirroring Lenu's feelings are many fans. "I hate Nino Sarratore with all my being, but as I like to suffer for couples who should not be together, the truth is how nice it was to defend Lenù. I love you in secret."

"Nino is BAD NEWS Poor Elena," added another.

Even in a stirring episode, fans found themselves irked with Nino's momentary presence. "Just finished the season finale of #MyBrilliantFriend and I had to grab some tissue. Everyone hates Lila but I felt that scene where she said she was happy for Lenú. My, how things have changed. Excited to read the third book! Also, FOH Nino."

Many fans now hope that Lenu doesn't return to her feelings for him. "Ugh. Nino... no! How could she even look at him after his predatory pervy pop and running off with her bf. I like that he defended her but hope she’s learned."

Following all his inconsiderate and selfish actions, he had long ago been termed as the "f**k boy" on the show, also earning himself a spot on the list of the trashiest men on the show. "I cannot believe that there are people who love Nino, he knew that Lenu was in love with him and did not care to mess with lila, he also abandoned lila and was not able to fight for her, he knows that he has a son and that lila would live miserably next to Stefano," tweeted another.

And with this latest appearance, he continues to hold the "f**k boy" tag. "Nino showing up when Elena is thriving, living her best life is peak fuccboi behaviour. It’s like he has spidey senses for when women are at their peak and that’s when he latches on."

What does Nino's return to Lenu's life mean? Especially now when she is engaged to the sweet Pietro Airota (Matteo Cecchi)?

'My Brilliant Friend' has been renewed for Season 3 on HBO.
