'My 600-lb Life': JT weighs nearly 900lbs and Dr Nowzaradan is surprised that he can still walk
JT knows he has let his weight control his life for a long time, but he is now ready to turn his life around. JT decided to meet Dr Younan Nowzaradan hoping that he would be able to help him out. JT knew that he would weigh a lot because when he was 25 he weighed somewhere near 700lbs.
He wasn't surprised when he saw that his weight had rocketed to 892lbs and was close to 900lbs. While his weight did not surprise him, he was upset to see that he had let it come so far. To make things worse, JT's Lymphedema only weighed 100lbs out of his total body weight. The lymphatic obstruction makes it hard for him to deal with everyday life.
The surgeon, Dr Nowzaradan was surprised that JT was even able to walk by himself and warned that JT needed to lose weight if he wanted to live longer and also treat his lymphedema. While JT was focused on working on the strict diet that was provided by Dr Nowzaradan, the urge to eat more still plagued him and there were times that he would give in.
At his next meeting with Dr Nowzaradan JT weighed 884lbs and had not lost enough as Dr Nowzaradan had expected. To make things worse, his lymphedema was infected and creating a problem. But the biggest shock came to JT when he and Jessica decided to break up. He felt he was losing everything in a short period and it affected his outlook towards weight loss.
JT was shifted to rehab but his dedication was still tested. He had the option of ordering food and wasn't sticking to the diet as planned. Dr Nowzaradan worried that JT wouldn't be losing weight the way he was supposed to. When checked again JT weighed 748.2 lbs and had a total loss of 144lbs since his first day. The slight dip in the scales pleased JT's doctor but he wasn't satisfied with his patient's progress because he knew JT was sticking to his diet strictly. Had he done that, JT's would have lost more pounds.
He warned JT about the importance of working on his diet and how it would help him in the future. Even though he was defensive about it at first, he decided to stick to his diet and make sure that the weight loss takes place.
JT needed to weigh 600lbs to get approved for the surgery which meant he had a lot of effort to put in. JT, on the other hand, was happy to move away from rehab. Even though there were times when JT felt like loneliness was taking over him, he made sure that he did not give in to the cravings. After spending two months away, JT decided to come again to weigh himself.
He was confident about having lost the weight but did not know how much it would be. After weighing himself, JT found that he weighed 618lbs. He wasn't too pleased as he thought he would lose more weight. However, Dr Nowzaradan approved JT for the weight loss surgery and was happy to see the dedication he had.
After his successful surgery, Dr Nowzaradan added that it was important for JT to focus on his eating habits to make sure he continues to lose weight. After a couple of months after the surgery, JT weighed 519.3lbs. JT was happy to see the change and was ready to work harder. He started exercising regularly to make sure the weight he lost wasn't coming back.
JT confessed that a year ago he could not see a future for himself, but now things were different and he was ready to push himself.
