In episode 1 of season 8 of ‘My 600-lb Life’, morbidly obese siblings John and Lonnie are put on a strict diet by Dr Norawazadan aka Dr Now ahead of their bariatric surgery.

The weight loss journey brings the brothers closer as they are both determined to lose a lot of weight. They push each other as hard as possible, to be able to get the surgery. They go to Houston for their first appointment with Dr Now. The number on the scale reveals that Lonnie weighs 560 pounds after having lost 53 pounds. Meanwhile, John has lost 67 pounds.

Although the brothers are thrilled about the extra pounds they have shed, the doctor says they did not incorporate all the changes they were asked to and gives them two more months to lose 60 pounds each.

They are disappointed that they need to do go down the weight loss road again. But, the brothers resort to eating healthy in order to lose more weight.

John and Lonnie prepare to meet the doctor for their third appointment, but, are extremely stressed as the gastric surgery depends on their current weight.

However, the scale reveals that have both shed an impressive amount of weight. The doctor is impressed with John and Lonnie’s transformation and approves their surgery. The procedure is scheduled for the next month. But, the doctor tells them not to get too comfortable meanwhile as they need to work really hard to get where they want to be.

Two months later, they return to Houston for their procedure. Despite several complications, John and Lonnie's surgeries go well. However, in order to maintain the weight, they need to follow a strict diet and indulge in physical activities, which entirely depends on them.

Following the surgery, the brothers have lost a reasonable amount of weight, but the doctor isn’t happy with the result. The siblings reveal that their mother is making them feel guilty about their diet, which is causing them to eat out of frustration.

The doctor recommends therapy for Lonnie and John, so they don’t go back to their original eating habits.

A year later, following the therapy, diet, exercise and mending the relationship with their mother, John and Lonnie are half the size they used to be.

'My 600-lb Life' airs on TLC on Wednesdays.
