Mental health plays a key role in a person's life but Bethany Stout is finding it hard to bring peace to her mind. Bethany decided to undergo weight-loss surgery in the hopes of having a healthier life but her struggle to get her life under control has been difficult. She had to go through a strict diet to ensure that she lost the required weight to get approved for weight-loss surgery.

While Bethany was able to reach her weight goal, she was advised to go for therapy to make sure she is able to resolve the issues that have been affecting her mental health. However, she felt that it wasn't necessary and she could do it without going into therapy. After the weight loss, Dr Younan Nowzaradan told Bethany that she should lose 15lbs every month.

But when Bethany weighed herself she realized that she had lost only 4lbs after the surgery. Dr Nowzaradan revealed the importance of going to therapy and Bethany decided to listen to him. On the first day of therapy, Bethany was able to spill out some details about her life. At first, she felt hesitant to open up but she knew that it was best for her to let her feelings out.

Talking to the psychologist, Bethany revealed that when she was 14 she had an abusive boyfriend who forced himself on her. She confessed that it affected her deeply but she also faced a period when she was depressed. Bethany recalled that she was 12 when she read a suicide note by her mother in which she blamed Bethany for everything.

Even though Bethany opened up about these details she thought that the therapy did not help her much. Despite this, she decided that she would continue to go for therapy as this is what Dr Nowzaradan wanted from her. While Dr Nowzaradan hoped therapy would do good, Bethany did not see any difference and still felt empty inside.

During her next appointment, Bethany realized that she had gained weight. From 496lbs to 506lbs, Dr Nowzaradan revealed that the reason her weight loss surgery wasn't working was that she did not take therapy seriously. While all her therapy pointed towards resolving her issues with her mother, Bethany decided that it may not be the best solution.

Unfortunately, Bethany thought that she did not want to go ahead with the plan because she did not see the results like she wanted to. She confessed that it is harder than she thought and she cannot control her craving. While Bethany said she would think if she should continue with the weight loss journey or not, Dr Nowzaradan got her emotions under control.

'My 600-lb Life' airs on Wednesdays at 8 pm ET on TLC.
