Oklahoma dad accused of molesting and murdering 22-year-old daughter claims she accidentally shot herself
NORMAN, OKLAHOMA: The trial of a 45-year-old father, who allegedly molested and killed his daughter and then told the police that the 22-year-old accidentally shot herself, started earlier this week in Oklahoma.
Ronald Lee McMullen Jr., who hails from Norman, was charged with first-degree murder after Kailee Jo McMullen was found deceased from a single gunshot wound to the face on the morning of June 29, 2017, according to a People Magazine report.
Ronald was the one who called 911 at the time and told the dispatcher his daughter had committed suicide. He repeated the claim to responding officers, although according to police records, he demonstrated suspicious behavior at the crime scene.
The affidavit stated that the suspect allegedly “kept trying to wipe off the blood all over him with a towel" and had to be physically restrained by officers on the scene from doing so on more than one occasion. In addition, he threw himself to the ground and “began covering himself in dirt" to mask the blood on his hands and torso.
He had also dug his blood-covered shoes into the dirt, which were later found by detectives. Detectives found that the body, as well as the gun used on the victim, had been moved prior to the arrival of first responders.
Before reporting Kailee's death to the police, Ronald had called the victim's mother, who had arrived at the house and performed CPR on her daughter. She had failed to revive her.
Friends of the Norman North High School graduate, who was co-captain of the school’s varsity cheerleading squad, told authorities at the time that her father had touched her inappropriately in the months leading up to her death.
Investigators also found that the victim was molested by her father at the age of 14. In both instances, no charges were filed against the accused. Ronald has pleaded not guilty and remains in custody without bail.
A jury selection took place on Monday, September 23, with testimony starting on Tuesday. The trial is expected to continue for the next two weeks.
