WATCH OUT: Shocking video shows man throw away luxury watch to escape mugging on LA street
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: In shocking surveillance footage captured, a man can be seen throwing away his luxury watch to escape a mugging attempt carried out by two young men. The video shows a man wearing a black Givenchy t-shirt, black sunglasses, a duffel bag over the tee, and an expensive watch which he throws away while running from the two robbers. The quick thinking of the victim helped him escape the incident which could have led to more damage.
The victim first notices the car in a suspicious movement around him until two men pop out of it and charge at him in the streets of L.A. He runs away and throws the watch over the fence of a home from the sidewalk, leaving the robbers hopeless as they didn't have their main attraction to steal anymore. The two unidentified suspects stop chasing the victim and one of them even gauges the possibility of climbing over the fence but quickly drops the idea and runs back to the car to his partner.

We can also see the victim interacting with the robbers at the end of the video, gesturing at them and possibly calling them out for their vague attempt. The exact location of the incident is still unknown and the perpetrators are still at large. The incident only proves the LAPD data that indicated a recent surge in robberies in the streets. It was shown that in May 2021, there were 3,137 robberies, which increased to 3,796 robberies recorded in the ending week of May. The incident also comes amid the zero-dollar bail policy which was implemented to avoid jail crowding during the pandemic.
Is California in trouble?
The zero-dollar bail policy was initiated by the Bail Project to reduce jail crowding, which means that the suspects are quickly released from custody if booked with low-level felonies and misdemeanors. The official Bail Project website reads, "As California struggles to contain COVID-19, this critical bill would help mitigate the crisis by preventing tens of thousands of people from cycling unnecessarily through overcrowded jails just because they cannot afford bail."
Obviously, the bill hasn't helped any cause as crime has only skyrocketed even further in the cities. What's more disturbing is that in his previous public service announcement in May, District Attorney George Gascon advised residents to keep their flashy jewelry at home so as to not be a victim of such incidents. None of the policies have helped and California has clearly seen a rise in crimes which might just turn into a pattern.
