Who is Ray Livingston?

Born and raised in Portland, Livingston developed his love for the outdoors when his family moved to rural Gresham, around the time he was in middle school. Young Livingston spent all his time hunting, fishing, and hiking through his formative years.

When it was time for college, he became an All-American track and field athlete at the University of Oregon, bagging himself a spot on 3 USA track and field teams.

Since athleticism is drilled deep in his blood, Livingston was always the sole enthusiast who would willingly dive into canyons and climb steep hills, all in search of game, thrill, and general wonderment. These vivid experiences he lived through honed his desire to learn primitive survival skills and further aided in giving him the confidence to wander into the wild by himself.

Ever since he found this newfound passion and purpose in life, Livingston has participated in History network’s 'Alone', as well National Geographic’s 'Called to the Wild'.

His respect for primitive survival skills is pretty much embedded in his soul; it's something he holds in very high regard. He also actively encourages others to both learn and practice said skills.

Further, Livingston doesn't shy away from calling himself a modern survivalist. Although the above-mentioned skills are indeed valuable, he believes there's no harm in using modern conveniences and technology at its best.

Catch 'Mud, Sweat, and Beards' as it premieres on Monday, April 4 at 11/10c, on USA Network.
