MTV VMAs 2020: What is the TriCon Award? Lady Gaga bags trophy, but fans say Beyoncé and Madonna deserved it
Lady Gaga has been stealing the spotlight at the MTV VMAs 2020! Leading with nine nominations, she was already on top of everyone's minds. However, the pop icon grabbed one too many eyeballs as she clinched the first TriCon Award after getting the awards for Artist of the Year, Best Collaboration and Song of the Year with Ariana Grande at the 2020 VMAs on August 30.
In an emotional speech to her fans, she said, "I know a renaissance is coming, and the wrath of pop culture will inspire you," and added, "Wear a mask. It's a sign of respect." No sooner was the award announced, many people couldn't help but wonder what really is the TriCon Award. What does it really mean? Apparently, it is a sign of respect for artists who have been around for three decades.

Initially set to be held at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center, New York City, on August 30, for the first time since 2013, the starry event was hosted by singer, and talk show personality Keke Palmer and brought a number of musicians and artists under one roof. The 90-minute pre-show, meanwhile, was hosted by Nessa Diab and Jamila Mustafa.
