MTV Movie Awards’ ‘In Memoriam’ montage mocks end of Ellen DeGeneres’ ‘reign of terror’, Scott Disick’s dating
This year’s ‘MTV Movie & TV Awards: Unscripted’ took a dig at several “disgraced” celebrities and lewd moments in reality television. The event’s own version of an “in memoriam” paid tribute to famous chat show host Ellen DeGeneres, Scott Disick, and Joe Giudice -- star of ‘Real Housewife of New Jersey’. Starting the segment, host Nikki Glaser said, “I'd now like to take a somber-slash-awkward moment to acknowledge all that we've lost in the world of unscripted entertainment this year,” as black and white images of the popular figures were shown in the background with catchy captions.
DeGeneres’ picture included a note that read, “Ellen's reign of terror 2003-2021,” which referred to the accusations she faced in the past year about a toxic work environment. Several of her former and current staff members alleged that the set of ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show’, airing since 2003, was not friendly as they had to suffer abuse at the hands of the top executives and the 63-year-old comedian allegedly did not do anything to stop that.

Not just that, employees also claimed that DeGeneres had made some bizarre rules for them on the set, which included no consumption of meat or fish at lunchtime, and they cannot talk to her or look her in the eyes. One staff member even alleged that they suffered racial microaggressions, while another added that they were sacked for taking medical leave after a suicide attempt.
Now, DeGeneres has recently announced that she will be ending her namesake show soon. The 19th season will be the final but dismissed speculations that it is because of the allegations she faced. “If it was why I was quitting, I would have not come back this year. I really did think about not coming back, because it was devastating. It started with attacks on me and attacking everything that I stand for and believe in and built my career around. I am a kind person. I am a person who likes to make people happy,” she added.
Meanwhile, the tribute segment of the 2021 ‘MTV Movie & TV Awards: Unscripted’ also featured 37-year-old Disick, who has romantically been involved with several women, including Kourtney Kardashian. During the awards ceremony, he and Kourtney’s picture was shown with a caption, which stated: “Scott Disick dating age-appropriate women 2006 - 2015.” According to reports, after splitting with the 42-year-old, Disick started dating 22-year-old Sofia Richie. They were together for around three years before he moved on and started romancing Amelia Gray Hamlin, 19.
Then the montage presented a photo of Teresa Giudice's former husband Joe. The 48-year-old was deported to his home country, Italy, in 2019 after he was held up in a US jail for 41-months and another seven months in an ICE detention center for mail, wire, and bankruptcy fraud convictions. His picture included, “Joe Giudice's passport 1973-2019.” In the end, the fun segment featured a list of reality programs that had been canceled in the past. “Let's also take a moment to acknowledge all of the canceled reality shows of the past. You may be gone, but you will also be forgotten,” Glaser said.
