Chuck Todd’s ‘MTP Daily’ time slot given to Nicolle Wallace in MSNBC overhaul, Internet happy he was ‘demoted’
American television journalist Chuck Todd, who has moderated NBC News’ Sunday-morning public affairs program ‘Meet the Press’ since the fall of 2014, and worked a weekday version of the show on MSNBC since 2015, will now expand the series to streaming video. This is part of a bigger MSNBC shake-up. According to reports, starting in September, Todd will launch a weekly political program on both live-streaming outlets NBC News Now as well as NBCUniversal’s Peacock streaming-video hub.
Also, part of the overhaul, author and news anchor of ‘Deadline: White House’, Nicolle Wallace, will expand her show to a two-hour feature, taking over space previously held by Todd’s ‘MTP Daily’, which will move to 1 p.m. There are several other changes, but the shift of Todd and Wallace seems to have caught the public eye.
With “Chuck Todd” trending on Twitter on Monday, August 3, many seemed happy that they would see less of Todd in the evening. “We’re getting less Chuck Todd and more Nicolle Wallace? Thank the f***ing lord!” wrote a Twitter user. Another said, “YASSSSS!!! Less of Chuck Todd and more Nicolle Wallace! We love to see it!"
Another Twitter user wrote, "MSNBC replacing kicking Chuck Todd out of his primetime slot and replacing him with a smart woman is, honestly, some of the best broadcast journalism-related news I've heard in a while. Nicolle Wallace, Joy Reid, and Rachel Maddow in primetime is a big statement."

The jubilation around Todd’s show’s slot being shifted to an earlier time was seen by many as a demotion, even if it wasn’t one. One Twitter user wrote, “Went out for a walk and came back to hear Chuck Todd got booted out of the 5 pm slot. My vacation is going swimmingly so far." Another said, “Chuck Todd finally demoted lol. His slot will be replaced with the highly deserving Nicolle Wallace at 5 pm.”

And even as the news made its way, many wondered why Todd had such a prominent role, to begin with. A Twitter user wrote, “Looks like Chuck Todd got a demotion and Nicolle Wallace got a promotion. I'm still trying to figure out how a Chuck Todd, a college dropout with zero charisma, ended up climbing through the ranks of MSNBC so fast to begin with.”

I'm still trying to figure out how a Chuck Todd, a college dropout with zero charisma, ended up climbing through the ranks of MSNBC so fast to begin with.
Another said, “Hey @MSNBC, although I’m grateful to see Chuck Todd kicked to 1 pm and Nicolle Wallace extended from 4 pm to 6 pm, I’d like to suggest one more change: Fire Chuck Todd since his program adds no substance to any discussion as well as his refusal to challenge lies. It’s time.”

Although I’m grateful to see Chuck Todd kicked to 1 pm and Nicolle Wallace extended from 4 pm to 6 pm, I’d like to suggest one more change:
Fire Chuck Todd since his program adds no substance to any discussion as well as his refusal to challenge lies. It’s time.
Others had more suggestions. One Twitter user wrote, echoing sentiments of several others, “Nicolle should be the moderator for Meet the Press. She is qualified, unlike Chuck Todd.” Another said, “They need to give Wallace Meet the Press. She actually knows how to ask questions and demand answers. Chuck Todd is terrible at his job.”

Prior to taking the helm of ‘Meet the Press’, Todd was Chief White House correspondent for NBC and host of ‘The Daily Rundown’ on MSNBC. Wallace, aside from her own show, is a frequent contributor and guest host on MSNBC programs ‘The 11th Hour with Brian Williams’ and ‘Morning Joe’ as well as NBC's ‘Today Show’. She is a former co-host of the ABC daytime talk show 'The View'. She was the White House Communications Director during the presidency of George W. Bush. Wallace also served as a senior advisor for John McCain's 2008 presidential campaign.
