MSNBC's Rachel Maddow sheds light on Jim Jordan's potential Speakership on 'The View': 'I'm past worried'
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: As of October 18, Rep Jim Jordan faced setbacks in his bid for Speaker of the House, losing in both the first and second ballots. In consecutive days, a total of 20 and 22 Republicans, respectively, cast their votes for other candidates.
On October 18, prior to the announcement of the second ballot results, the hosts of ‘The View’ had a discussion with MSNBC host Rachel Maddow.
During the conversation, she was asked to provide insights into the ongoing race for Speaker of the House following the removal of Kevin McCarthy.
Representative Jim Jordan has been endorsed by former President Donald Trump and Maddow also expressed that she hopes they will go in a more “moderate” direction for Speaker.
Whoopi Goldberg questions Rachel Maddow on Speakership
After introducing the MSNBC host Rachel Maddow, Whoopi Goldberg asked her about the current situation of Speakership and Rep Jim Jordan, “What is going on? Jim Jordan…he lost the first round of Speaker vote, and the second vote is underway.”
Goldberg continued asking, “Is he going to have to do the same thing McCarthy did, and then they’re going to be mad that they had to…what is happening?”
Maddow responded, “Even if you can fast-forward to the end of this process, whenever it ends, with whoever wins, what does that person win? The worst job in America, and they get to hold it for five minutes, and then they get fired, and then we start again.”
She continued, “I mean, there’s nothing to look forward to for anybody here. It is a sad thing. Um, but we also…we need a functioning Congress. Um, and I don’t know how we’re going to get it.”
“They refuse to do anything with Democrats, so that means they have to do it amongst themselves. They’re incapable of choosing a leader amongst themselves, and so, we’re just waiting for them to get it together,” added Maddow.
Rachel Maddow talks about ‘Mr Jordan’
Whoopi Goldberg questioned Maddow about whether they should be worried that “they can’t even find a leader,” to which, Maddow had an amused response, “I mean, worried? At this point, I’m past worried.”
The MSNBC host then spoke about Jim Jordan, “I think that had Mr Jordan been chosen, it would have been a big deal for the country… It would be like if… Trump was president and put Rudy Giuliani on the Supreme Court.”
Goldberg burst into laughter at this metaphor presented by Maddow.
Maddow then added, “I mean, there was nobody who was more important in Congress to Trump’s effort to overthrow the lawfully elected government of the United States than Jim Jordan. So then to make him second in line to the presidency?”
“And in charge of Congress certifying the election results in 2024? He’s still in the running, maybe it’ll still be him, that’ll be a big deal if that happens, in all the wrong ways. Um, I’m hoping they go a more moderate direction, but we’ll see,” concluded Maddow on Jordan and his potential Speakership.
