Homeless man shot dead after he asked suspect for pizza slice
PRETORIA, SOUTH AFRICA: In White River, Mpumalanga, a homeless man was reportedly shot dead for asking for a pizza slice. Selvy Mohlala, a spokesman for the provincial police, reported that the incident happened on the night of March 25, 2023, close to a police post.
“According to information, police in White River heard a gunshot sound around 7 pm near the police station. They then went to investigate, where they found a group of people on the road and a lifeless body of a man lying down,” Mohlala said.

'The victim allegedly asked for a pizza from the suspect'
According to Mohlala, the man had been shot in the hand and chest by a 39-year-old man who was reportedly present at the scene. “It is said that the victim allegedly asked for a pizza from the suspect, who refused to give him. Then the victim assaulted the suspect with a chain. It is further alleged that the suspect drew his firearm and shot him. The victim is estimated to be in his late forties,” Mohlala explained, as reported by IOL.
Medical personnel were called to the scene, according to Mohlala, and they pronounced the man dead. “The suspect was arrested and charged for murder. The firearm as well as his firearm license were confiscated for further investigation,” Mohlala said.
The man, according to Mohlala, was scheduled to show up in court on April 3. He urged members of the public to contact Crime Stop at 08600 10111 or send information through the MySAPS app if they had information that could help find the deceased person's family.

On February 28, Deshawn Thomas, a 23-year-old man from Missouri was charged with murder after he shot a homeless man named David Saldana in the head. Thomas was accused of first-degree murder and armed criminal action. Witnesses shared a brief video of the terrifying moment the suspect shot the victim, and it was widely shared online.
The video shows the alleged shooter standing behind the man who is seated on the sidewalk outside the Globe Building in St Louis and loading his gun for about 30 seconds. The man, whose arms were briefly raised, is then killed by the suspect in open daylight. A witness can be heard saying, "Oh my god. He just f**king killed him."
